Weekend stuff

Happy Monday everyone! I'm sad that the weekend is over, but it was a great one as usual. Friday night after work I went out and did a little retail therapy since Jarrett wouldn't be getting off early. I went to Old Navy and got some amazing deals on clearance items. I also got the flats above for literally $2.95. What a steal on flats. Love them. After Old Navy I decided to treat myself to some Avalanche Frozen Yogurt. Oh so yummy.

Saturday I worked and then came home to my wonderful hubby cooking a steak dinner for us. He made steak, mashed potatoes with bacon bits and shredded cheese on top and baked beans. Steak is one of my absolute favorites that he makes. He always cooks it perfectly. After dinner, I was a very sweet wife and I went and got us ice cream from Marble Slab Creamery. Yeah we have an obsession with frozen yogurt and ice cream which is weird considering we live in Alaska. After we ate our ice cream it was cuddle time with the puppies. I think we all fell asleep at some point. Saturday nights are just plain exhausting.

Yesterday we lost an hour of sleep, so we both slept until about 11:30. I haven't slept that late since college, but it was definitely needed. We got up, did laundry and then went to the BX for some lunch and for Jarrett to get some supplies for his trip to Florida on Wednesday. After we got home, we played with the pups for a little bit and then we left to go to the shooting range in Matanuska. I haven't been to the range in about two years so it felt so good to finally get back to it. I love shooting because it's a hobby that my hubby and I can do together. I'm so glad that he taught me how to shoot a little over three years ago. On the way to the range I was able to get some really good pictures of the snow covered mountains. They are so gorgeous!

When we got home from the shooting range, we took the puppies for a nice long walk. Now that the sun is staying up longer we have more daylight and time to take them on more walks. There is nothing like getting all bundled up and taking them on a nice long walk while viewing the snow covered mountains all around us. It's a wonderful feeling.

We ended our weekend by cooking dinner together and watching The Walking Dead. Perfect. Now, I will leave you with my sweet girl, Lucy, to start your week off right! Isn't she adorable?

Friday Five

Man this week has been a long one! I cannot wait to have Sunday off so that I can spend some time with Jarrett before he leaves for Florida this week! He'll only be there for a few weeks, but I still get sad when he leaves. At least when he comes back, it will almost be time for my mother in law to fly out here! So exciting! Okay, now on to Friday five! Hope you all had an amazing week!

1. Wednesday we got more snow. Total, we probably have three feet of snow still on the ground from the past three to four months. I have gotten so use to all the snow that once it melts away, it will be hard to get use to seeing grass again. I have to admit though. I have become a pro at driving in all this mess. If you really know me, you know that I use to have the biggest fear of driving in the snow due to my car accident in the snow when I was sixteen and had just gotten my license. I was scared to drive in snow for many years after the accident. I promised myself that when we got to Alaska, I would put my fears behind me and learn to drive in it again. I mean, I didn't have a choice. It snows all the time here and I had to learn to drive in it. I couldn't have my husband driving me around everywhere. I had to be brave. Now, driving in the snow is like second nature. Thank goodness for that!
2. These are my dogs after work almost every day. I come home and I know they need to go potty, but all they want is a good belly rub before going out. Leo actually likes to have his belly rubbed, be held for a little and then taken out to go potty. Now, Lucy does the same thing. I'll open the door for them to go out and she'll roll over just like her brother. This was them Thursday night. Leo rolled over and then Lucy did. If it was up to them, I would pick them both up and take them outside. Nope. They are not spoiled at all.
3. This week I did my first order of the Plexus Slim pink drink. I will be doing a more in depth post later on about this company, but for now I will just share a little. Plexus is a weight loss company that originally started out to help diabetics and pre diabetics lose weight and manage their diabetes. Now they have products that not only help diabetics manage their sugar levels, but their products are now tailored to help everyone lose weight. Now, I have always been a relatively petite girl and whenever I talk about wanting to lose weight or wanting to eat healthier and get back to the gym, everyone thinks I'm crazy! I might have always been small, but that does not mean that I cannot stand to lose a few pounds here and there.

Since moving to Alaska, I have gained about 10lbs. That's a big deal to me. Everyone is all like "10lbs is nothing" and "you are still so small." This is all I ever hear. I have been hearing a lot about Plexus Slim and what it has done for some of my friends. Everyone that I know that has used the products has had amazing results. The pink drink is what I ordered and I cannot wait to get it in the mail and start the process to lose those 10lbs and get healthier.
4. So, I have my certain shows that I have always watched from day one. Grey's Anatomy is one of those shows that I have always been obsessed with ever since it started. If you watch it as much as I do you were either excited about the season premiere or sad about it. Spoiler Alert! April left Matt at the alter for Jackson. At the end of the premiere they showed that April and Jackson actually got married. I was sooooo excited to see that they got married! I have loved them as a couple from the very beginning and always wanted them to be together. I love when couples go through so much and end up together in the end.
5. I have also become a little obsessed with Scandal! Yeah I know, I love way too many TV shows. Jarrett makes fun of me for all the shows I watch too. I can't help myself though. I am a drama lovin', soap opera watchin' type of girl and I always have been. So, Scandal is addicting. Olivia and Fitz are amazing together. Mellie is gorgeous even though I hate her sometimes. The show is just pure crazy half the time and I love it. It is typical political drama at its finest and I cannot help but watch it and love it.

Weekend stuff

Hello everyone! I am back with some weekend things for you! Friday was a long and busy day at work for me with it being the first of the month and all. The first and middle of the month are our busiest times at the credit union. Hmmm I wonder why? Anyways, Friday was a long day and when I got home I was so exhausted! I spent my evening playing with the pups and catching up on my soap operas! Jarrett usually gets off early on Fridays and he did this Friday as well! I love when he gets off early because I do not get to see him very much during the week.

Saturday, I worked all day and then Jarrett took me to get sushi for dinner. I have been craving sushi all week and we decided to try this place called Samurai Sushi. Omg it was the best sushi I have ever had! So delicious! After dinner we were craving milkshakes for some reason so we ended up going to our favorite ice cream place, Marble Slab Creamery, to get cookies and cream milkshakes. Nothing like sushi and milkshakes to make your Saturday night, right? After dinner and dessert, we went home and played with our new desktop computer. It feels so good to finally have a good computer and a desk top nonetheless.

Today was grocery shopping and cleaning day. We slept in this morning and it was amazing! Any chance I have to sleep past 7 is amazing and I take full advantage of it. We both slept until 10 and then I went and got us breakfast. After breakfast, we got ready and headed to the commissary. Man that commissary was busy as usual. The best part of our grocery shopping trip was getting to purchase Girl Scout cookies. They were selling them right outside the commissary. We were so happy to finally get our Thin Mints! After we got home and put all the groceries away, it was time to clean. Jarrett actually had to go to work at five for a few hours so it was a good time to get the house all cleaned up. While I cleaned I watched The Oscars. Since they were live, The Oscars came on at 4:30 our time! It was a little weird to be watching an awards show in the afternoon. I also got laundry done today amongst the grocery shopping and cleaning. Whew I am exhausted as usual!

I am hoping to have some exciting weekend things for you soon. Jarrett and I have been so busy with errands on our days off that we have not had much time to do Alaskan stuff such as skiing, snowboarding, visiting glaciers and day cruises. We have not had much time for anything fun really. We've gotten to site see a little bit here and there, and take the puppies on walks around the base, but we haven't gotten to work on our bucket list. Jarrett leaves next week for Florida for work for two weeks and when he gets back, he'll be on leave for three weeks and my mother in law will be here for a week and a half. I am so excited and I cannot wait to do all kinds of Alaskan things while the hubby is on leave and while the MIL is here!

For your week ahead, I will leave you with the cutest puppy butt ever. This little butt was the first thing I saw this morning when I woke up. Priceless!

Friday Five

Now that I'm back in the blogging world, it is time for Friday Five again! Yay I'm so excited! My weeks are so jam packed these days so Friday Fives will be jam packed as well. You might even see Friday letters again too, but you'll have to wait and see!

1. Over Christmas, we received many gifts from family and friends. Every Christmas, my dad always gets me a gift relating to cooking or baking. This year along with a pale pink Kitchen Aid mixer and a Pioneer Woman cookbook he also sent this neat little kit. It is a Smore's Cookie Kit. I'm not sure where he found it at, but it is the coolest baking kit. It even comes with its own cookie pan that you can keep and reuse. I almost forgot that I had the kit until Jarrett reminded me to make it. Jarrett had a sweet tooth Saturday night, so I decided to finally make the cookie kit. Man oh man it was delicious! We had the whole cookie demolished by the end of the weekend!
2. I have been dying to make a yarn wreath for some time now and I finally made the time to sit down and make one. Even on my days off I am extremely busy with housework, errands and doing stuff for work. I rarely have time for myself  to do things such as crafting, reading, working out, etc. These are hobbies that I love and I am now working on fitting these things into my new busy life. Friday night after work I decided to finally go to Michael's to look around and purchase the materials needed to make my wreath. Wreaths can be very expensive, so I've decided to start making my own. A post on how to make them will come a little later. For now, I will leave you with my first wreath! I love it and I'm so proud of it!
3. One of my best friends, Brooke, and her husband Matt welcomed their adorable mini dachshund to their family on Monday. This little guy is Tucker and he is just the cutest thing ever. Brooke got Tucker through the same breeder that we got Leo from. I was so happy for her when she told me that they were getting a dachshund through the same breeder! We had the best experience with our breeder and were so happy to get our Leo from her. I strongly encourage anyone in the Salisbury, MD area that is looking for a dachshund to visit our breeder's website www.suzdoxiedawgs.vpweb.com.
4. I have come to the conclusion that I absolutely love having two dogs. Although they wear me out and drive me insane some nights, I love them both so much. I am amazed at how well they have adjusted to one another. It is like we should have had them both together all along. Not to say that we have not had some issues with them, but for the most part we have been very fortunate to have a little dog and a big dog get along so well. I just love them and I cannot wait to see how they do when we bring a baby home for the first time.
5. I am so excited that we are finally buying a new computer this weekend! We are finally buying a desk top computer too instead of another lap top. We have always just had a lap top that we both share and we have been talking about buying a desk top for the longest time. Now that it is tax return time, it is desk top computer time. Now I will have a computer during deployments instead of having to go to the library since Jarrett takes the lap top with him on deployments. I think more than anything I am excited to have a brand new computer to blog on. It will feel awesome to blog and not have to worry about it taking forever due to the slowness of the lap top! Below is the computer that Jarrett found at Best Buy. I cannot wait to get it home and do my first blog post on it!

I'M BACK with a four month update

Well, hello there everyone! I am BACK after nearly four months away! It feels so good to be finally back in the blogging world. I hated being away from the blogosphere, but I felt it necessary to take a step back and focus on my new job for a little. Now that I have been in my job for over four months now, I have really gotten the hang of things. Now that I have found a balance between working a real full time position and adjusting to my new life in Alaska, it is time for me to balance my blog as well. So, here I am. I am back. For now, I will take it slow with only two or three posts a week, but I hope to really be able to balance even better soon and get back to posting five to six posts a week.

If heard from many people and even bloggers that if you love something enough, you make time for it. They are so right! I have been tossing and turning about when to come back or even how to come back. I decided I loved blogging enough to never give it up. Working full time and putting 100% into making my blog what I want it to be will be hard and very time consuming, but I am so committed to balancing everything perfectly! I am going to start planning out my posts and writing all of my posts for the week on my days off. I know that once I develop a balancing system that works, everything will all work out.

So with this come back post, I will just give you all a little four month update because a lot has happened since my last post.

1. I started my full time position with Alaska USA Federal Credit Union last October and still four months later I love my job. I actually ended up staying with Hallmark until the end of the year, so for two months I worked both jobs. I ended up leaving Hallmark at the end of December because I was so exhausted and never got to spend time with Jarrett on the weekends. Now that I just have my full time job, I feel so blessed to be working for a great company that I will be able to have a wonderful career with. I love the branch that I work at and I love my supervisors and co-workers. I am well on my way to promotions in the branch and higher positions within the company, and I cannot wait to see myself grow in the company. I have been trying so hard to just be patient for the right job and I have finally found the right place for me. It also feels amazing to finally be making a real income. I must admit, it feels so nice to be able to pay bills and have a lot of money left over instead of barely having anything left. I can now put plenty of money in savings, pay down bills more and buy more stuff for myself. It's so wonderful.
2. One of the biggest things that you guys missed out on was the arrival of our second puppy, Lucy Hayman. Lucy is a mix of German Shepherd, Husky and Lab. We adopted her from the Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue and are so grateful that we did. She has been the best addition to our family! Her and Leo have also gotten along much better than I ever thought they would. Jarrett and I have also adjusted just fine to having two dogs. I thought it would be a huge struggle, but everything feels so normal with two dogs running around. Now, the struggle will come when it is two dogs and a baby that we are adjusting to, but that will be a post for another day! For now, I feel so blessed to finally have a little girl in our family to even it out. She is the sweetest puppy and I can tell just how happy she is every single day!
3. We experienced our first Alaskan winter already and it actually wasn't as bad as we thought. It started snowing in November and it has been snowing ever since. It snows pretty much every week and I cannot lie, at first it was weird to be dealing with all this snow and so early in November, but now we are pretty use to it. We're from the Eastern Shore of Maryland where we'll go a whole winter without snow or we'll get a little snow but not until like February or March. Here in Alaska, you experience a real winter. It snows when it's supposed to snow, but it also sticks around for a while. We probably have a little over three feet of snow on the ground that has accumulated since November.

It also stays darker longer in the winter here. From about November until January the sun came up around 10am and went down around 3pm. That's five hours a day of sunlight. It was the weirdest thing. Now the sun is going backwards and pretty soon the sun will be up most of the time. We'll need to purchase blackout curtains because the sun won't go down until 12am and even then the sun won't go completely down. It's crazy! I'm just glad we've adjusted to the winter and the darkness/daylight. I thought I'd go crazy with all the darkness, but I survived even though it made me tired all the time. I have just decided to embrace each new thing that Alaska has to offer.
4. I was really worried about how I would adjust to our first Thanksgiving and Christmas away. Even though I felt a little sad on both days, I survived them as well. Jarrett and I have decided to create our own holiday traditions since we are away from home. On Thanksgiving, we cooked our very first Thanksgiving dinner all on our own(with a little help from my mother in law on speaker phone)! We cooked our first turkey with my mother in law's guidance and it turned out amazing! We were so proud of ourselves! That fact that we made this huge traditional meal together was just wonderful. We spent the rest of the day face timing with everyone, just relaxing together and then putting up Christmas decorations. On Christmas Day, we cooked a delicious ham dinner and then went to the movies. We've decided that each Thanksgiving and Christmas we will cook a big meal and then go to the movies. I cannot wait for this Christmas because we are planning on flying home for a week. Although we won't be able to fly home every Christmas or even every year, we will do what we can to fly home as much as possible.
5. I celebrated my 27th birthday and my first birthday away from everyone. My birthday fell on a Monday, so Jarrett took me out the Saturday night before. Jarrett took me to a steak restaurant called Sullivan's Steakhouse for dinner and they gave me a yummy free dessert. Jarrett got me a few gift cards to my favorite places as my gift. We are at the point where we hardly ever leave any gifts to buy for one another because we both always buy what we want. Gift cards are just the easiest thing to get. I love getting them because I can go buy what I want plus I just love going shopping!

Monday morning when I got to work, my boss had two peanut butter and chocolate pies on the table and had spelled out my name in Reese cups. I loved it and the pies were delicious! All in all, I worked on my birthday so it felt like a normal day, but then Jarrett got off work earlier than usual, so I at least got to spend a little time with him on my birthday. We do not get to see each other very much during the week due to our opposite schedules, so I was ecstatic to get to spend a tiny bit of time with him before I went to bed for the night. Next up is Leo and Jarrett's birthdays! I cannot wait to plan something for my boys!
6. The past four months I have also been working really hard on making our house a home. I have been working on one room at a time with my main focus on the bedrooms. We bought a new bed set for our bed and then we got a full size bed from one of my Hallmark co-workers and moved the old bed set to that bed. Now all we need is a little bit of furniture to go with the full size bed. Eventually everything in our bedroom will move to the larger guest bedroom and we will purchase a king bed and all new bedroom set and furniture. That is the goal for now. I want to get the bedrooms all done and then I want to work really hard on the living room and family room which will require many more furniture purchases and finally getting rid of our torn up couches. Leo and Lucy have holes all over the couches and I have done everything from buying tons of new pillows and throws to cover the holes up. The couches do not look too bad with the new pillows and throws, but I would first like to really get these dogs trained better in regards to chewing on stuff so that they do not ruin our new furniture. I will definitely keep you guys up to date on our house coming together.
It feels so good to be writing again and it feels so good to have updated you guys on everything. If you follow me on social media, you probably already knew most of these updates, but it feels amazing to share them on the blog. Our life in Alaska is finally feeling normal. Life finally feels normal again. I never stop missing my family and friends, but we are truly making a life for ourselves here. More and more every day I realize just how lucky we are to be living this life here.

Now that I am finding balance in my life again, I want to learn how to balance my blog with my hectic schedule. I want to be that organized blogger that puts 110% into her blog no matter how busy her schedule is. I want to learn how to handle everything with ease. I promised myself that I was not going to give up on something that I love because I was too busy or too tired to commit to it. Blogging is way too important to me and I will make time for it. Soon you will see me organizing and planning out my posts each week so I can post regularly and you will see a new look to the blog because I can finally afford to pay someone to help me with the design. There are other aspects that I hope to take on with my blog, but for now, I am taking one step at a time. Before I know it, I will be that blogger that I always wanted to be.

Slowing down a bit

So, today I started my full time position with Alaska USA Federal Credit Union and as overwhelming as a first day at a new job is, it was a pretty great day! I am officially a girl with two jobs and I know I am going to be completely exhausted very very soon. For now I will be taking a little step back from the blogging world so that I can focus on my new job and try to balance all of the new things in my life a little better. I still cannot believe how much my life has changed in these past three months! It's insane, but it's a good insane! All of a sudden I am in a new state far away from everyone, I have a much bigger house to manage and take care of plus I have a full time job and a part time job! I am so thankful and lucky to have these challenges in my life, but I want to take the time to focus on them and find a happy balance in the midst of everything!

Once I get the hang of my new job, get the hang of working two jobs and learn how to balance both jobs with everything else going on in our life, I will slowly but surely make my way back to my third job, blogging! I really think that being a blogger is a job even if you don't get paid for it quite yet. It takes so much effort into one single blog post. Blogging means so much to me and I want to be able to really focus on it once my life finds normalcy again. If I really find myself wanting to blog one night or on one of my days off then I will. For now, I will just go light on the blogging! Check back for some posts from time to time and eventually I will make my way back to the usual grind!

Thank you for reading and thank you so much for all of your continued support!

Weekend stuff

Happy weekend y'all! I must say, I am just a tad bit jealous of all of you that have little kids and took them to the pumpkin patch this weekend! And also very very jealous that you get to dress them up in the cutest Halloween costumes ever too! Every time I got on Facebook this weekend I saw all the cute pictures of the kids dressed up and picking our pumpkins and then my baby fever kicked in even more. More on baby fever in a post to come over the next couple of weeks! Now, on to the weekend!
My weekend did not start out so good. It all started Thursday when I woke up with a very upset stomach! I had to work at two, so I was hoping that I would feel better, but no dice. I still went into work thinking that I would feel better once I got there and did a lot of stuff. Nope. No dice once again. I then took my break and grabbed a Sprite from the drink machine thinking that that would definitely help me get through the rest of the night at work okay. Haha no way that was happening. After my break I vomited twice within an hour and then I knew the stomach bug had hit me. Yeah I know, TMI, but that's exactly what happened! Finally work was over and it was time to go home and get to bed. I vomited twice in the middle of the night and knew that if I didn't go to the doctor on Friday that it could get worse!
I usually wait until the last possible second to go to the doctor, but I was starting my full time job on Monday and knew that I had to get rid of this bug fast before Monday came. On Friday I woke up and still felt horrible so I went to the hospital and missed out on work that day. Wouldn't you know it though that the day I get sick and the first time I have to go to our new hospital all by myself, it would be the day that they are having trick or treating at the hospital and that I had to fight through huge crowds of kids to get to the Family Health Clinic! It was insane! There were soooo many kids and I got lost! When I finally got through the crowds and made it to Family Health they took me back right away! They were so quick too! They ruled it a stomach virus right away and sent me to the pharmacy for my medication and before I knew it I was out of there! Thank goodness! The rest of the day I made a date with our couch and handsome little man. Leo was the best little side kick while I was sick.
Later on when Jarrett got home from work, I wanted to try to eat since I had not eaten in over 24 hours! He made me chicken noodle soup and it tasted like heaven. I was still hungry after the soup and ate half a bologna and cheese sandwich too of which I was able to keep that down along with the soup. Whew good! I was also able to get a good nights sleep that night without getting sick again. Saturday I woke up feeling so much better and went back to work at twelve. I went the whole day and night feeling pretty normal and my appetite came back in full force! I ate a little on my break and then I decided to be really brave and grab a cheeseburger and fries on the way home from work. I paced myself and only ate half the cheeseburger and fries. It was delicious and I still felt fine after eating it!
Today I woke up to another wonderful night of sleep and took on the day at work again. After I got home, Jarrett made a delicious steak dinner and I ate all of it! It's pretty much safe to say that it was just a little two day bug and I'm very glad it's gone! After dinner, I got to cuddle on the couch with my two guys and watch some football. Boo the Ravens lost to the stupid Steelers, but it's all good. We'll get them next time! Just watching football with my boys was the perfect end to a crazy, but good weekend.
I will leave you with the wise words of Si to start your week off with a smile or laugh! I start my full time career tomorrow and although I am pretty nervous and anxious, I am trying to just take it easy and let God take control. I am trying to just stay calm, cool and collective as I yet again, deal with a big change in my life. I have been able to deal with a lot over the past three months and now I will take this on too. One change after another I will get through anything that comes my way!

Friday's letters

Dear stomach virus, I think you are somewhat going away, but I still can't tell. One minute I feel better and then my head is in the toilet, so this is not cool! Hopefully my medicine will start to kick in soon and maybe I'll feel like eating something. Until then, it's the couch and a cute puppy in my lap for now. Dear Leo, You have been the sweetest thing today! It's like you know that mommy is sick and you want to comfort me. You have barely left my lap and you have just cuddled with me all day! What a sweet boy you are! Dear Husband, I am so glad you're home from work now! I have missed you so much today! Also the fact that you made me soup when you got home was the sweetest! You always take such good care of me every single day whether I am sick or not! I love you! Dear Mom, Ahhhhhh I want my mommy when I don't feel good and you are not here! At least last year when I had phenomena you were visiting at that time so you were able to go to the hospital with me! At least we got to FaceTime today and we get to every day! Thanks for being such an awesome mom! I love you!
